A lavish "Urban Spa" in the heart of London’s West End, Sanderson hotel offers a retreat from the bustle of the city into a world of fantasy and wellbeing. The landmarked 1950s building has been transformed by Philippe Starck into a surreal Cocteau-like dreamworld with a lushly landscaped interior courtyard garden, a world-class gourmet restaurant and the extensive facilities of the renowned Agua Bathhouse. On entering the lobby you are confronted by large red sofa, in the shape of a pair of pursed lips, designed by Salvador Dali. The lobby itself is a large, open plan area with a pale wood floor and walls and windows covered in white voile curtains. The furniture is very abstract, mostly comprising wooden carved chairs imported from Africa. There are also several gold chairs in the shape of swans. Wildly romantic, sensual and dreamlike, the 150 guest rooms, some with private gardens, feature silver-leafed sleigh beds, a rug inspired by Voltaire’s handwriting and oil paintings of soothing landscape scenes that are hung, unexpectedly, on the ceiling.
A hedonist’s delight, the 10,000 square-foot Agua Bathhouse provides pampering, spiritual relief, and tranquillity to all who enter. With its miles of diaphanous white curtains, 14 all-white treatment rooms, chill-out zone and meditation beds, the Bathhouse has a peaceful, dreamy and almost cloud-like ambience.
At some 80-feet in length, Sanderson's dramatic, glowing, onyx Long Bar is the focal point for energy at the property. Classic and innovative cocktails fill the seasonally changing menu, with guests also being able to enjoy the Ultimate Burger with a selection of varying garnishes. Meanwhile, the perfect complement to Sanderson's overriding philosophy of restoration and wellness is Jeffrey Chodorow’s 'Spoon' restaurant, which offers a unique 'mix and match' menu. Guests can customise their meals according to their nutritional priorities, transformed at the hand of world-renowned chef Alain Ducasse. Overall, Sanderson epitomises a "new luxury" that is smart, pared down, and tempered with a healthy dose of wit and irony - in short, a hotel with modern sex appeal.
